HSUS Announces $5,000 Dog Fighting Reward Fund
Animal fighting hurts animals, children, the community, and you-Be part of the solution!
The Humane Society of the United States offers a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in dog fighting or cockfighting.
High profile animal abuse cases such as the Michael Vick trial are a reminder that animal fighting for profit IS a problem in this country, and may even affect us here in Humboldt County.Research shows that people who abuse animals are more likely to abuse children & spouses, and even commit other acts of violence. You can protect yourselves and your families by reporting suspected cases of animal neglect and abuse to your local animal control agency.People involved in dog fighting often use other animals as "bait" to provoke the dogs in training to fight to the death.

These defenseless animals are thrown into a pen of aggressive dogs who attack them-sometimes chewing through limbs. Many of these victims are then left behind or tossed in dumpsters, where they bleed to death. Bait animals may be obtained through "free to good home" ads, so be careful when re-homing a pet to someone you don't know. If you have information about illegal animal fighting, you are eligible for a reward. Here is what you need to do:

Call your local police department or animal control agency. Give them as many details as you can about the suspected animal fighting situation. Tell the law enforcement agency about the HSUS Reward Fund. (You do not need to give your name to law enforcement to report animal fighting.) Get a letter from law enforcement. If the animal fighter is convicted, ask the law enforcement agency to send a letter to HSUS stating that your tip lead to the arrest and prosecution of the convicted animal fighter. The letter should be faxed or mailed to:
